SC&H Group’s Tax Services team offers the following blog post about how Marylanders can take advantage of tremendous tax savings when doing their back-to-school shopping this year.
Once again, the state of Maryland is kicking off its Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week, which offers tax-free shopping for certain back-to-school items.
Available from August 14th through the 20th, consumers can purchase qualifying apparel and footwear $100 or less completely tax-free — regardless of how many items are purchased at the same time.
“A break on the cost of clothing and shoes can make a real difference and help stretch family budgets,” said Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot in this press release. “Local retailers also benefit with increased foot traffic.”
Maryland has been offering this tax break to citizens since 2007.
In addition, in February, the state of Maryland also offers its Shop Maryland Energy exemption, where Marylanders receive a break from the state’s 6 percent sales tax on qualifying Energy Star products.
In the meantime, now’s the time to get shopping!
