SC&H Presents Tax Reform and Unclaimed Property Tax Insights at COST Event

SC&H recently co-sponsored and presented at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Meeting for the Council of State Taxation’s (COST), a nonprofit trade association consisting of more than 600 multistate corporations engaged in interstate and international business.  The company focused on several topics at the event including tax reform and the latest developments in unclaimed property tax.

In a presentation titled, “Current Developments in the Mid-Atlantic States,” Ed Ben, Director, and Bill Cole, Manger, both from the SC&H Transaction Tax Practice, reviewed the recently enacted sweeping tax reform in North Carolina and Virginia. The presentation also highlighted Maryland’s approach to addressing infrastructure funding through reform of their gas tax programs, as well as the activities of various tax reform committees in New York and the District of Columbia.

In addition, the presentation touched on how these tax reform efforts affect each state’s business tax climate and their impact on capital investment, job creation and retention.

During the presentation titled, “The Ever-Changing Landscape of Unclaimed Property,” Patricia Hopper, Principal of the SC&H Unclaimed Property Practice, discussed the state of unclaimed property tax in the Mid-Atlantic states, as well as the Delaware unclaimed property voluntary disclosure landscape and third party audit activity.  The presentation provided insights on how to prepare for an unclaimed property audit, and steps that can be taken now to mitigate unclaimed property audit risk.
