Director - SC&H Group
Paul recalls getting a call some years ago while on vacation between Christmas and New Year’s: an investment fund was readying to trade in a specific market, and the regulator required an audit demonstrating net worth and equity value. Could Paul get it done in a couple of weeks? Quickly assembling a team at SC&H and gathering the necessary data, Paul and his staff completed the audit and filed it with the governing body in 10 days. The investment company, which has grown considerably since, continues as Paul’s client.
An audit professional with former Big 4 experience, Paul has led engagements in company audits, internal controls reviews, and financial statements consulting. He directs SC&H’s SOC/SSAE 16 auditing practice, providing companies with audit services for their outsourcing of key components of their clients’ internal controls. These engagements are both SOC/SSAE 16 specific for public companies, and part of SC&H’s general, financial statement issuance audits for private firms.
Paul and his staff’s services also extend to SC&H Employee Benefit Audit, with a concentration on nonprofit 403(b) plans, as well as audits of pensions and 401(k) plans. He has served organizations ranging in size from small start-ups to multinational companies requiring multi-location audits, with a focus on clients in manufacturing, non-profit, financial services and investment management, government, publishing, and retail services.
Expert at financial statement audits and reviews, Paul, with nearly 20 years in accounting professional services, also has experience in internal controls audit, Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) consulting, due diligence audits for mergers & acquisitions, assurance services for large public debt offerings, and for SEC-regulated clients, registration statement preparation and periodic regulatory reporting.
Paul is a graduate of University of Maryland, College Park, with two B.S. degrees, one in Finance and the other in Accounting. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed in Maryland. Paul also is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA), the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), and the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).
He has served as a member of the Civic Affairs Committee of the Building and Exchange of Baltimore, and is a regulator speaker on nonprofit accounting at SC&H-sponsored seminars and events. Paul also is a member of the board and the treasurer of the Casey Cares Foundation, which supports and encourages critically ill children and their families through social and sports events, and planned vacation opportunities.
