Overall Update on Economy
Gregory Miller, Chief Economist at Suntrust, discussed the state of the economy, why the current conditions are both unique and challenging, and what the intersection of multiple economic crosscurrents could mean for growth, interest rates, and the investing markets over the coming year. He completed his graduate and undergraduate Economics degrees at Florida State University and has been a practicing economist, forecaster, and teacher for over 30 years.

Accounting and Tax Update
Duke Allen and and Lori Burghauser of SC&H Group discussed recent accounting pronouncements affecting not-for profits and IRS' current "hot buttons" and tips on how to best navigate them.
Duke Allen is a Senior Manager in the Tax & Advisory Services practice of SC&H Group. Duke specializes in performing audits, reviews, and compilations for various clients. He has served on the engagements of numerous publicly traded and privately-held organizations in a variety of industries including technology, manufacturing, retail, distribution, and construction.

Lori brings more than 18 years of combined tax and audit experience. Prior to joining SC&H, Lori was a former Tax and Audit Supervisor with a "Big Four" accounting firm. She has provided tax services, including ASC 740-10 (formerly FAS 109) provision services, and performed audits for a varied client base including Fortune 500 companies, Technology companies, Public companies, Not-For-Profits, Manufacturing companies, and middle-market and start-up companies. In addition, Lori has served as a Controller for a growing software company.

403(b) Plans and 401(k) Plans

Chad Berger from Suntrust and Denise D’Antuono of Nationwide delivered information on 403 (b) plans.
The presentation reviewed a study of 500 plan sponsors on how they view their benefits, when/how benefits are reviewed and how they make decisions to change their benefits. The session also discussed 408(b)(2), and the meaning and implications of the new fee disclosure requirements that go into effect this July.
Denise D’Antuono is a Regional Vice President at Nationwide, and has worked the past 13 years to assist advisors with their retirement plan business. I have been with Nationwide for 4 years. Prior to joining Nationwide, I worked in a similar role at Legg Mason for 9 years.

is a Private Financial Advisor at Suntrust and offers clients more than 10 years of investment experience. He works collaboratively with clients to assess their financial situation, goals and objectives, determines risk tolerance, and forms and executes an appropriate investment plan to obtain measurable results.

In this session, Joe explored appropriate Board structure, proper interaction between Board members and management, examples of necessary legal documents along with a discussion of illustrative policies, and more.
