Joe Freiburger CPA, CIA, CISA

Joe Freiburger is a Director with SC&H Consulting and is a leader in our Risk Management consulting practice. He brings more than 30 years of experience having served in various industry groups including Professional Services, Government, Not-For-Profit, and Financial Services. Joe offers expertise in developing internal audit functions, leading internal audit teams, conducting risk assessments, performing Sarbanes-Oxley compliance activities and completing internal audit quality assessment reviews; having conducted well over 35. 

Prior to joining SC&H, Joe was a Director in an international professional services firm with responsibility for directing and marketing internal audit services. He also served in a similar capacity with a “Big Four” accounting firm. He provided re-engineering services to one of the largest counties in Virginia resulting in substantially reduced levels of risk in operations. Joe was State Internal Auditor for the Commonwealth of Virginia, operating the Governors’ Fraud, Waste and Abuse Hotline. There he identified $1.3 million of savings over a three-year period.

He has guided organizations in properly addressing corporate governance while, at the same time, addressing compliance and risk topics.  He has demonstrable experience in recovering funds for clients.

Joe holds an M.S. in Business from Virginia Commonwealth University and is a cum laude graduate of University of Richmond where he earned a B.S. in Business Administration. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).  He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), The Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) and is a Past Chapter President of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).
