Community Involvement

Passion That Makes A Difference

SC&H Group is passionate about giving back to the communities we serve.  We make it a priority to contribute to a wide range of charitable programs and events through volunteer activities and donation opportunities.  Each of our professionals, on average, donate more than 25 hours per year to community service activities.  Many of our employees also volunteer their time and expertise by serving as board members of leading regional and national charitable organizations.  We are proud of the work we do in our communities, and will continue to do our part to help ensure the long-term vitality of each of the communities in which we operate.

Corporate Philanthropy

We devote resources and human capital to foster development initiatives and support nonprofit organizations.  Some highlights of the programs and organizations SC&H supports are:

The SC&H Charitable Foundation was established as a vehicle to collect and distribute employee donations in an effort to better the communities in which we work and live as well as to assist victims of national tragedies. Charities are suggested by SC&H employees through an annual survey and are then finalized by the Foundation’s Board members.

In 2007, SC&H made the decision to begin holding an annual Day of Service as a way to give something back to the community in which we work – and in which many of us live. On the last Friday in June, the entire SC&H team goes into the community to complete community service projects. We select 10 – 12 organizations annually that are aligned with our corporate values and which do work that is meaningful to our employees. Employees work in teams to complete projects that range from working with children with disabilities to building sheds for horses and everything in between. The areas of focus typically include humanitarian efforts, animal rescue, education, and the environment. In several cases, our employees have continued to work with the organizations well beyond the Day of Service itself.

Each month, a group of SC&H volunteers plan, prepare and serve a home cooked meal to the guests of the Ronald McDonald House in Baltimore. The Ronald McDonald house provides a home away from home for families while their children are being treated at local hospitals. The volunteers have the opportunity to meet, eat with and get to know the families and children staying the Ronald McDonald House.

JA

Junior Achievement (JA) is a global organization whose goal is to ensure that every child, from elementary to high school, has a fundamental understanding of the free enterprise system (http://www.ja.org/default.asp). SC&H volunteers spend a half day working with elementary school children in JA’s Biz Town.  In JA Biz Town, students put their classroom learning to work as they develop decision-making, leadership and teamwork skills.  Students participate in real-life opportunities available in the free enterprise system as they become business operators, taxpayers and lawmakers.  The experience helps teach basic math, economics, technology, social studies, reading and writing concepts in a way that is interactive and fun for the students.  Biz Town consists of 14 businesses which the students operate and SC&H volunteers act as business advisors to the students.
